China's photovoltaic exports face new challenges in carbon footprint. How can companies break through?

According to the General Administration of Customs data, in the first five months of this year, the cumulative export value of Chinas main photovoltaic materials (silicon plates, batteries, components) was $159.13 billion, down from the same rate of 35.5%. In which, the total exports and exports of photovoltaic components to the European market fell by 20.59% and 49.53%, respectively, the total exports and exports to the Asian market also decreased.

In addition to traditional anti-dumping, anti-subsidy and safeguard measures, carbon footprint requirements and evaluation standards have become a new type of green trade barrier, which has formed a clear elbow on the export of Chinese photovoltaic products.

Multiple initiatives to address the new situation in the industry

In order to respond to this new situation, local governments, the photovoltaic industry and enterprises have taken measures to actively address green trade barriers by actively participating in the formulation of industry standards, promoting process transformation and upgrading, and strengthening technological cooperation.

To carbon reduction, photovoltaic components first need to reduce the carbon emissions of high-energy manufacturing links such as silicon materials, silicon plates and battery plates through green electricity supply in the production process; Secondly, through scientific and technological innovation and upgrading, optimize the industrial chain production process, and energy-saving reduction.

The local government is also actively acting. Anjou Fengyang proposed to accelerate the development of new industrial chain thinking, regional manufacturing strong markets. The Fengyang city government said that at the end of the production factor, Fengyang Economic Technology Development Zone and Fengyang Compound Modern Industrial Park are creating a green electricity industry demonstration park, creating a new energy as the main power source source network load storage integrated innovation demonstration template, realizing the 100% green electricity supply from silicon plate to photovoltaic component production process. At the end of the production process, through the upgrading process, reducing the carbon footprint of silicon, promoting the 20GW N+ ultra-efficient large-scale single-crystalline silicon project landing.

In the face of the increasing green trade barriers of overseas markets, Feng Shui will actively collaborate with the head of enterprises to explore the reduction of the carbon footprint of photovoltaic products, lead the green transformation and upgrading of the photovoltaic industry, and promote the export of Chinese photovoltaic products to broader overseas markets.

At the industry level, Chinas photovoltaic products imports and exports and merchants have been voluntarily authorized by the industry head enterprises, and are leading the organization of several upstream and downstream photovoltaic products enterprises to actively cooperate with the Ministry of Commerce to formulate the low-carbon product quantification requirements - export photovoltaic components industry standards, aimed at meeting the requirements of the main exporting countries photovoltaic products carbon footprint.

At the same time, enterprises are also actively responding to the new situation by strengthening technological cooperation. During the 17th International Solar Photovoltaic and Intelligent Energy (Shanghai) Conference, Shanghai Caesare Biotech Co., Ltd. and Feng Shui Transportation Energy Investment Co., Ltd. announced the establishment of strategic cooperation, the two sides will focus on the application of bio-based polyamide composite materials industry, in Feng Shui jointly create the worlds first bio-thermal plastic composite material photovoltaic frame application demonstration project, realize the new material replacement of photovoltaic aluminum frame, and gradually promote in other distributed photovoltaic projects and photovoltaic power plant projects.

With the deepening of the global energy transformation, the demand for photovoltaic products in the international market will continue to grow.Implementation of carbon footprint certification and in-depth exploration of product reduction of carbon technology innovation is not only a key strategy to enhance the international competitiveness of Chinas photovoltaic industry, but also to industrial transformation and upgrading and sustainable development.
